Foot Pain Q & A
What causes foot pain?
Foot pain may arise as a result of many contributing factors. You may experience pain in the foot or ankle area after an injury, due to overuse, or as a symptom of a foot condition. What’s more, pain can be described in a number of ways. It can be tingling, radiating, burning, or even feel numb. One of the most common causes of foot pain is arthritis. Other possible causes of foot pain may include bunions, ingrown toenails, flat feet, tarsal tunnel syndrome, stress fractures, and tendonitis in addition to a host of other possible conditions.
What can I do for foot pain relief at home?
Until you can visit one of our podiatrists, most injuries should be handled using the "RICE" method:
- Rest – Reduce movement and pressure on the area for at least 48 hours
- Ice – Apply a towel-wrapped ice pack to the affected area
- Compress – Use compression bandages to restrict movement of the affected area and to reduce swelling
- Elevate – Raise the affected area to minimize swelling
If you have experienced a more serious injury or this method is not successful in easing discomfort and swelling, contact the Advanced Foot & Ankle Center of North Texas for an appointment.
